Disaster Prevention /
Hurricane Preparedness
Computers are now indispensable equipment for many of us. Be
sure to have a disaster plan and recovery for all your computer
equipment. Keep your computers in a safe location, with an
uninterruptible power supply that has AVR technology, which will protect you from surges
and power failures. To avoid delays due to closed or
inaccessible computer or office supply stores, have extra
supplies of ink cartridges, paper, and misc computer items. Keep
important office documents and accounting and management files
backed up.
Make sure during your backup that you do several copies of this
backup.
Make sure you maintain an "offsite" copy. When a hurricane
warning is issued, back-up all important computer files, and
keep the back-up tapes or disks in a secure location.
Some things you can do is to;
1. Wrap up your computers and
office equipment in plastic to protect against water damage. You
can also elevate your computers in the event of a flood, maybe
put the yellow pages under your system, or better yet, on top of
your desk.
2. Unplug your computers
and important electrical equipment.
3. Back up your data as
described in the
backed up
pages.
